Happy 7 Year Anniversary PUP‏!

Back in 2005, PUP rescued our first dogs out of an Oklahoma puppy mill with the help of Small Paws Rescue out of Oklahoma. We saved 9 dogs that day. Who would have thought, seven years later, we would still be saving lives?

I remember thinking, “I’ll start this and in three years people will be spaying and neutering, all of the dogs will have homes, and I’ll start something else.” Unfortunately, we aren’t to the point where we can close our doors, but in that time some things have changed for the better. I pray they will continue to.

Fortunately, I have the pleasure of working with some amazing volunteers, vets, vendors, and great supporters. Together, we have built a rescue we can be proud to call our own. Thank you!!

With that being said, it gives me great pleasure to present you with our new PUP logo!

To top all of this off, we have saved, as of May 1, 2012, over 1800 dogs, a few kitties and of course a couple of birds!

Thanks to everyone for their support, hard work, passion, and dedication to a rescue that was started with few hands, a very arduous mission, and a big heart!

This month we celebrate our 5-year anniversary!

Reflecting back to when PUP first started, we had a handful of volunteers committed to saving dogs and placing them in good homes. Though we are bigger, that same commitment is still here today.

Whether starting a rescue or figuring out how we’re going to pull as many dogs as we can out of overcrowded shelters, there are no words to describe the feeling of so many people coming together to accomplish a task. I witnessed this again over the past few weeks with a large transport coming up from the overcrowded Stockton Animal Shelter.

Due to travel for work or vacations, a number of fosters were unavailable to take in dogs. We had already committed to the dogs and weren’t going to leave any behind, so we certainly had our work cut out for us. Our volunteers and fosters pulled together and found a foster home for every dog that came up.

This was followed by a very successful adoption event at Petco this past weekend where five lucky dogs found their homes!

The commitment didn’t stop there. More room was made for some dogs out of our Olympia shelter and an Oregon rescue both asking for help.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to those committed to helping us rescue and rehome our dogs. To the shelters and trainers we work with, to our vets who make room in their schedules and donate their time, to our vendors who donate food and supplies, to our supporters who help us pay for required or much needed vet care, to the wonderful homes and families we find. If it wasn’t for all of you and our amazing volunteers, PUP would not be able to save the number of great dogs we do each year and place them into loving homes.

My sincere thanks,

Laura Tonkin, PUP Founder
